Zenyth frames and components are the product of my love of cycling, and my interest in composites. Rather than being a commercial venture, I design and build mainly what interests me. For me, the satisfaction of solving the technical problem and presenting it as a shining smooth piece of art is huge.

Since 1996 I have been employed working with composites in the superyacht industry – in production, design and management. Through my work, and with the help of my study in Architecture, I have honed my design and engineering skill. Using this and the increasingly sophisticated tools at my disposal I seek to improve what I do.

The cycling came first, and the composites later, but now they are inseparable for me. Having raced competitively for a number of years, in 1994 I came to a point where I wanted a new time trial frame but didn’t have the funds to buy one. Not having welding or brazing skills I decided to turn my hand to composites. After some extended research I proceeded to build a build a foam cored carbon frame using wet layup techniques. I was surprised how successful the process was, and from then was hooked. Since then I have built all the frames described on the Projects page, plus aero thin-shell cycle helmets (before they became illegal), wheel cases, and the occasional automotive and domestic products.

For years I drew the bikes I wanted to build and ride, and now I have the tools and means to do so. New materials and methods, CAD and FEA software, and new technology and applications mean that in spite of the rigid rules and regulations there are still opportunities to explore what composites can offer both the bike builder and rider.

At any one time I have a number of projects on the go. By the end of 2007 I hope to have more track frame projects completed and perhaps even a recumbent. There is always a ‘next project’, and if you can pique my interest, it might be yours!
